The circumsporozoite protein(CSP)gene is the major surface protein of the sporozoite stage of the malaria parasite.CSP is found in all mature malaria parasites, where it forms a dense coat on the parasite's surface.CSP has three distinct domains:a central repetitive domain with a variable number of tandem repeats and 2highly conserved non-repetitive terminals.Variations in the repeat region of CSP varies are mainly due to differences in the number of amino acids and the length of the sequence.Researchers in China have divided the Plasmodium vivax into tropical zone strains, temperate zone strains, strains causing a mixed genotype infection, and P.vivaxtype 2strains.Previous studies have described the main variations in CSP,and foreign researchers have found that those variations involve two variant sequences,VK210 and VK247.These sequences contain a variable number of repeat units,GDRA(A/D)GQPAA and ANGAGNQPG,respectively, with some variation in their position within the sequence. These two variants are distributed worldwide, and their local distribution is correlated with climatic gradients or with specificity for the Anopheles vector. The current paper reviews the molecular structure of this protein as well as advances by domestic and foreign researchers in the study of the genetic polymorphisms of the CSP gene.
