The bound between literal translation and free translation will be discussed by analyzing some illustrative translation. It is believed that there is overlap between literal translation and free translation, and this bound is "positive translation" —the content, style and verve about source text are conveyed faithfully. Thus, it is after a translator has full understanding of source text and makes adequate analysis of source text and target text in terms of their morphology, syntax, rhetoric, cultural connotation and so on that he can decide which is used, literal translation, free translation or both, to make sure faithfulness and good verve.
