象征主义创作手法在各类文学作品中都有不同的体现并被众多的作家所采用。现代英语短篇小说作者较多地运用生命体 (或人物 )象征、物体象征、多重象征、事件象征等象征主义创作手法 ,探索普通人寻常经历中可能发生的事件及其教诲意义 ,从而揭示现代人的生活、思想和感情。现代英语短篇小说中的象征主义创作手法具有其显著的时代特色。
Symbolism creative techniques have been adopted by many writers in various literary works in different ways. In modern English short fictions, symbolic images such as living creatures (or human beings), objects, multiple symbols, events, etc. are often used to explore the possible incidences in ordinary people's lives and their lessons so as to reveal modern man's life, thought and feeling. The symbolic features in modern English short fiction show the distinct color of the modern times.
