Sui Sin Far's Mrs. Spring Fragrance focused mainly on the Chinese people in the west coast of the United States. This paper uses six short stories in the Mrs. Spring Fragrance collection to examine and analyze her views towards Chinese American homesteading, race relations, and cultural identities during the period of Chinese exclusion in the United States. Influenced by both the Suffrage Movement and constrained by the prevalent institutional practice of racism of her time, Sui Sin Far's attempt to defend the Chinese families fell short, ultimately acknowledging that there was no room for Chinese family values in American society.
