摘要
根植于西方典籍并深受欧洲小说影响,英国小说卷章体例萌芽于乔叟作品,在中世纪罗曼司和伊丽莎白时代小说展露雏形,到18世纪菲尔丁小说最终定型。英国小说卷章体例的形成既归因于编辑加工,更归功于小说家匠心独运。
Deeply rooted in the Western classics and influenced by the European novels, the book- and chapter-division in the English fietion first began in Geoffrey Chaucer＇ s works. Its embryo appeared in the Medieval Romance as well as the Elizabethan novels. And its mature form could be found in Henry Fielding＇ s novels of the eighteen century. The appearance of the book- and chapter-division of the English fiction was partly because of the editing and printing, and partly because of the writers＇ originality.
