《秀拉》中主人公的死因仍是个未解之谜。本文把该小说放在勒内·吉拉尔的模仿欲望理论视域下,发现秀拉的种种看似叛逆的行为本质上都是她模仿周围人欲望的产物。秀拉是模仿欲望的化身。她的死亡一方面是模仿和竞争行为导致社会混乱、她本人被指控为替罪羊的客观结果,另一方面是她的模仿欲望屡屡受挫,用终极办法超越这种欲望的主观选择。《秀拉》是莫里森对人们模仿欲望的警醒,对替罪羊机制的谴责。
The cause of the protagonist of Sula is still a puzzle.This paper analyzes the novel in the view of Rene Girard＇s mimetic desire theory,and reveals that all the abnormal behavior of Sula is essentially the outcome of her mimesis of the desire of people surrounding her.Sula is the embodiment of the mimetic desire,and her death,on the one hand,is the objective result of her being accused as the scapegoat following the social disorder caused by mimesis and rivalry,and,on the other hand,the subjective choice of her own since her mimetic desire was repeatedly frustrated leaving her no alternative but to transcend it by the ultimate way.The novel is Morrison＇s warning against people＇s mimetic desire and a criticism of the scapegoating system.
