摘要
"语言机能"(the faculty of language)自上世纪中叶提出以来备受关注,不仅奏响了生物语言学的序曲,而且指明了语言学的研究方向—内在语言。通过梳理语言机能及其进化问题的研究,文章旨在阐明内在语言的价值及其对语言研究的启示。内在语言以其特有的结构层级性实现了思维的完美表达,为揭示语言的本质属性提供了重要线索;内在主义视角下的语言研究应突破外在形式的束缚,把重心转移到反映人类思维的内在语言上来,转移到体现语言共性的语义界面上来。
The faculty of language has undergone heavy scrutiny ever since its proposal in the middle of the last century. It has pointed out a direction for linguistics- the study of internal language,and has been held as a prelude to biolinguistics. This article illustrates the significance of internal language by reviewing research on the faculty of language and its evolution. Internal language together with its hierarchical structure serves as a perfect expression of human thought and provides important clues to reveal the nature of language. The study of language under the perspective of internalism should not be constrained by the external forms of language,but rather shift its focus to the internal language and the semantic interface.
