This paper focuses on the Japanese business community' s perception toward China inthe period between 2001 and 2006 and argues that it had changed from a "China threat" perception to a"China opportunity" (or China demand ) perception. Meanwhile the top business associations likeKeidanren, reached a consensus that China is an opportunity more than a threat. As a reaction of the2005 anti-Japan demonstrations in China, the Japanese business community had took more activities toimprove governmental relations and promoted the idea of "East Asia Community". The reason of socio-economics actors' preference changing toward China is that, under the background of China' s entryWTO, the business strategies/models in many industries had changed to a cooperative one from a morecompetitive one. The top business associations not only led the discussion but also took political activitieson behalf of the business community.
