Selecting the Shuping landslide in Zigui county in the Three Gorges Reservoir area as the research object, this paper analyzes the automatic monitoring curves intercepted by the Remote Full-Automatic Deformation Monitoring System and relevant statistics of the professional monitoring, reservoir water levels and precipitation in this area over the years, and summarizes the deformation characteristics and major inducing factors of the Shuping landslide. Through the displacement curve analysis and the measured data calculation, a quaternary quantitative early warning classification criterion with the deformation displacement velocity and contingence angle as threshold values is proposed. The results show that the reservoir water level declination is the major inducing factor of the Shuping landslide, while the rainfall only plays a supplementary role; there exists a positive correlation between the reservoir water level declination and the deformation displacement velocity of the Shuping landsilde ; the critical factor of the acceleration of the deformation displacement velocity lies in the outward dynamic water pressure caused by the water head difference between the underground water levels and reservoir water levels. The analysis with the contingence angle and the deformation displacement velocity as threshold values can only provide a quantitative basis for the grading of the early warning of the Shuping landslide, while the predication of its evolutionary phase should be made according to the synthetic judgment of various factors, including the macro deformation and failure etc..
