摘要
交际和表征有多种模式,指称行为也不例外。已有的指称研究主要聚焦于语言模式,大都没有考虑实施指称行为需借助的其他模式。本文以汉语交际中的物体指称行为为切入点,首先构建了一个涉手模式分析框架,然后结合自建小型多模态语料库中的实例,系统描述了不同涉手模式的形式与功能。本研究有助于加深我们对涉手模式的特征以及指称行为本质的认识,同时也为后续开展指称语与涉手模式的互动分析打下了基础。
Communication and representation involve an ensemble of modes,for example,verbal expressions,gestures,gaze and facial expressions.However,previous studies only explored the verbal mode and disregarded other modes in behaviour.Recent studies such as Hindmarsh and Heath(2000),Moore(2008) and Eriksson(2009) have adopted a multimodal approach to referring behaviour,analyzing both the verbal and non-verbal means in the practice,but these studies are not systematic in analyzing gestures.Besides referring expressions,gestures such as handpointings and iconic gestures are commonly found in object-referring behaviour.We define these gestures performed with hands and arms as gesture modes and propose an analytical framework for gesture modes in objectreferring behaviour.The analysis is based on a small-sized Chinese video corpus built by the researchers.We designed five referential communication tasks to collect the data.Two groups of participants,namely,adults group(aged about 20 years old) and children group(aged about 8years old),performed the communication tasks in pairs.The total video length of the adults group is 93 minutes and 27 seconds,while that of the children group is 145 minutes and 21 seconds.In this framework,we distinguish various gesture modes used in referring to three types of objects.These three types are present objects,non-present objects and generic objects.The gesture modes include pointings,iconics and placing.Pointings are further divided into big pointings and small pointings;iconics include three subtypes of model,action and description.Placing is found only in referring to present objects.With regard to the distribution of gesture modes in referring practice,present-objects reference involves the two subtypes of pointings,placing and only a subtype of iconics-model;non-present-objects reference employs all the subtypes of pointings and iconics,so does generic-objects reference.The paper describes in detail the forms as well as the functions of gesture modes.In terms of pointings,big pointings
