English Renaissance is occupied with a great number of shining stars, one of whom is Sir Walter Ralegh, whose poem, The Nymph’s Reply to the Shepherd,as the answer to Christopher’s The Passionate Shepherd to His Love, shows no obedience or agreement to the shepherd’s love, but, with irony attitude, bravely unfolds its female voices by facing the unreal pastoral love, which is rare in the English Renaissance dominated by the male. Interweaving with two women closely connected with the author and the background of the age,the thesis is based on the analysis of the poem The Nymph’s Reply to the Shepherd, and introduces some women from different social classes of his time,to prove that English Renaissance is not only an era of male poets, but is also made up of female voices.
