Based on Michael Sorkin's conclusion of "the end of public spaces" , this paper analyses the historical and current situation of public spaces. It maintains that the public spaces which are subjected to planning and design and thus of a normative nature, are flagging and even approaching to their end as a result of political control and global capital erosion. By contrast, the individual public spaces, or so called everyday public spaces are constantly contrasted by individual demands and multiple public actives in everyday life. These spaces have been the important complements to urban public space, and as an alternative public sphere to bring renascence to public space.
