Since 9/11 terrorist event, contemporary Amedcan novelists have become more concerned with differ- ent kinds of social risks, and thus sensitively reflected them in their novels. For the research of contemporary A- merican novels, the newly-risen social science -- Risk Theory may be precisely applied to interpret some of the most excellent novels, such as those of DeLillo' s and Powers'. The characters of the novels are put into the social environment with many kinds of risks to challenge the traditional cognitive ways by undergoing the bad liv- ing and dying conditions. Therefore, the risk systems of complex global technology and economy are represen- ted and the multiple themes of Post-modernist novels expanded.
