The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of monensin supplementation on dietary nutrients digestion and emissions of ruminal CH4. Forty-eight Simmental beef cattle( about 12-month-old),in good body condition, were randomly divided into 4 groups. The control group was fed the basal diet( mixed concentrate and corn stover, concentrate to roughage as45 to 55). TreatmentⅠ,Ⅱ,and Ⅲ were fed monensin at 100,200 and 300 mg · d^-1 respectively. The study lasted 70 days. The results showed that digestion of crude protein and intake nitrogen in treatment Ⅱ and treatment Ⅲ were significantly higher than that of control group( P 0. 05),however,the gas energy were significantly lower than that of control group( P 0. 05). The faces nitrogen and urine nitrogen in treatment Ⅱ and treatment Ⅲ were significantly lower than that of treatmentⅠ and control group( P 0. 05). Digestible nitrogen and nitrogen retention in treatment Ⅱ and treatment Ⅲ were significantly higher than that of treatmentⅠ and control group( P 0. 05). The ratio of nitrogen excretion to intake of nitrogen, ratio of phosphorus excretion to intake of phosphorus in treatment Ⅰ,Ⅱ and Ⅲ were decreased significantly compared with control group( P 0. 05). The results indicated that digestion of crude protein and utilization of nitrogen were improved, while emissions of nitrogen, phosphorus, and methane were reduced when beef cattle fed monensin at 300 mg·d^-1.
