The writing and editing of Chinese literary histories have since the twentieth century evolved from the orientation by way of literary genres to the axis of times. The tradition of "schools of writing" remains invisible with the modern concept that "each generation has its own literature" with the result that literary genres are included in literary histories focusing on times. The stylistic rules regarding the writing and editing of literary histories in the Republic of China were reconfirmed and solidified after the founding of the People's Republic of China until The Cambridge History" of Chinese Literature was published, which gave rise to a new round of thinking in regard to the stylistic rules about literary histories.
