Joseph Heller is a famous novelist of contemporary America, and his masterpiece "Catch-22", hailed as one of the most influential novels in the history of world literature, is also a representative work of black humor. With his superb techniques, Heller shows us a funny but miserable world. With his amusing but shocking words, he reveals the wartime and post-war dark bureaucracy in American society. This paper attempts to interpret the multi-leveled theme of "Catch-22" from different perspec- tives, aiming to help the readers better understand the novel.
