Arginine produces nitric oxide under the catalysis of nitric oxide synthase, and then regulates the lipid metabolism of tissues and organs, promoting the glucose and fatty acid oxygenolysis and the fat cells lipolysis, inhibiting the adipose tissue deposition. Its mechanism may be associated with the regulation of the cAMP signaling pathways of nitric oxide on lipid metabolism related enzyme activity, gene expression and signal transduction. This context summarizes the distribution and structure characteristics of nitric oxide synthase and the arginine regulation of lipid metabolism, and then discusses the possible mechanisms of arginine regulating lipid metabolism.
