摘要
《道林·格雷的画像》是一部试验创新的英文小说,明显带有印象派风格。王尔德效仿19世纪法国印象派绘画大师及其作品,尝试印象派画家的技法。在场景的描绘中,他仔细选择不同的时间地点使之形成对比,比如夏日明亮的画室和撒满阳光的花园与冬夜阴雨中昏暗的吸毒所和充斥罪恶的贫民窟,以此赋予景物描写多层次寓意。在人物塑造上,王尔德在人物肖像、人物语言诸方面,通过色彩的对比使读者形成对小说中人物性格的印象。甚至在小说的叙事节奏方面,王尔德都以景物和人物思绪的明亮舒缓与阴暗匆促形成对照,对叙事节奏加以调控,赋予情节发展以象征意义。
Being of the style of Impressionist painting,The Picture of Dorian Gray can be understood as a piece of test in art.Wilde borrows from the Impressionism the techniques of emphasizing the contrast of light and colours,and applies them into his novel writing.In the creation of settings and characters,in the construction of the plot and the story,and even in the arrangement of the rhythm,the colorful lan-guage plays an important role in The Picture of Dorian Gray .The significance of Wilde’s trying Impres-sionist techniques lies in his contribution to the development of novel writing in the way of expression.
