"Ming Yi" ( 明医) first appeared in the Buddhist sutra in Southern and Northern Dynasties. In sutra, "Ming Yi" which was used as a metaphor to show the Buddha giving advice to his believers means a sage rather than an excellent doctor. However, "Ming Yi" was not a terminology of Indian Buddhism, its con- notation originated from the health -preservation theories of Daoism in the native medical literature Dynasty , the connotation of "Ming Yi" became a professional evaluation of doctors, and separated ~ In Song from religious ideas at the same time. From then to Ming and Qing Dynasties, "Ru Yi" (儒医) instead of "Ming Yi", became the most popular term to describe the doctors with high skills.
