摘要
当前,国别与区域研究已成为外语学科以及其他学科重点开拓的一个重要学术阵地。考虑到美国的重要性、影响力,以及深层次研究美国的现实需要,在外国语言文学学科框架下提倡美国学学科建设是时代需求。本文分析了美国学与美国研究概念的区别与联系,简要回顾了美国学的起源及其发展,并就外语学科美国学的研究内容、研究目标、理论与方法等提出建议。本文提出,推介和普及美国学概念不是为了弘扬美国文化价值观,而是为了深度解读和认识美国,系统考察文化因素对相应美国历史与现实议题的作用范式与影响途径;同时,积极拓展外语学科内涵,使美国学成为新时代外语学科建设的重要内容,助力其服务国家对外战略需求。
Area Studies is a key part of Disciplines of Foreign Languages and Literatures and other disciplines. Due to the huge influence and importance of the United States, and the real necessity of studying America, it’s a call from the era to recommend American Studies(AS) under the framework of Disciplines of Foreign Languages and Literatures.The paper advocates the use of the concept of AS in China. It first of all clarifies the similarities and differences between AS and the Study of America(SA), reviews literature related, and presents the reasons why AS is strongly advocated. It proposes a working definition of AS. Some puzzles in the past and challenges at present of AS in China are introduced and discussed. Then, the paper briefly reviews and examines the origin, development and significance of AS in the United States, which further helps us understand the importance of AS in China. The paper proposes some suggestions for developing and prospering AS in China, including possible themes of study, theories, research methodologies, frameworks of analysis, etc., which justifies AS in Disciplines of Foreign Languages and Literatures.
