摘要
委婉语是人们在交际过程中遇到一些诸如禁忌的或敏感的话题时，不直接说出，而是使用别的语言以间接的方式说出，以达到更好的交际目的。由于委婉语有一定的规约性和模糊性，在交际过程中一定要注意分寸，恰当使用。
Euphemism, as a sociolinguistic phenomenon, performs certain social functions. It is employed to talk about unpleasant or tabooed subjects which we should not mention directly. Moreover, it is also used as a diplomatic way of speech either out of politeness or certain ulterior motives. From the angle of pragmatics, euphemism reveals certain distinctive features which include idiomaticity, changeability, vagueness and deceptiveness.
