The vocabulary of a language is the living fossil of human's cognition history and the object names in vocabulary are branded with people's thinking. Shiming, a book by Liu Xi of the Eastern Han Dynasty, attempts to explore the origin of the name of an object. This exploration is based on the communication of people's thinking. Conversely, through his explanatory notes in the light of the sound of a character, the thinking features of the Han Dynasty people and their cultural background can be inferred, thus proving the humanistic property of the Chinese language.
