The paper sets forth the concept and causes for the growth of strategic environmental assessment, and its feature and status quo; discusses some primary problems in the course of environmental impact assessment in China; emphasizes the necessity of implementing SEA; and illustrates the SEA is a method to retain the sustainable development and improve the environmental impact assessment in China.
