A monolithic Ni metal catalyst was prepared and its performance in the partial oxidation of methane to syngas was compared with that of supported Rh and Pt catalysts. It was shown that the Ni metal catalyst gave the similar methane conversion and selectivity to H2 and CO as supported Ni and Rh catalysts, but had excellent stability. The results with H2O and CO addition in the reaction indicate that H2/CO ratio in the products can be adjusted directly in the reaction.
