摘要
本文简要地介绍了现代中国早期数学家胡明复致力于科学、教育事业的一生。他是中国最早研究现代数学并取得一流成就的数学家之一,也是中国最早的综合性科学团体——中国科学社和最早的综合性科学杂志——《科学》的创建者之一。他还对上海大同大学的创建、中国数学名词的统一工作等做出了贡献。
Hu Mingfu(Minfu Tah Hu),a famous mathematician in the earlierperiod of this century,the first among modern Chinese in getting thedoctor's degree on mathematics,was one of the founders of China's ear-liest comprehensive scientific body China Community of Science and China'searliest comprehensive scientific journal Science.He also did much workon Chinese mathematical terms,and contributed to the establishment of LaUniversitato Utopia(Da Tong University).This paper describes in briefhis life and work on the basis of historical documents.
