Chinese-American writer Frank Chin’s novel Donald Duk describes the change of the Chi-nese-American adolescent Donald Duk’s understanding of history and his cultural identity during the Spring Festival. This thesis interprets Donald Duk, mainly by applying postcolonial theories of Frantz Fanon and Stu-art Hall, with the purpose to present the process of Donald Duk’s awakening from“the Other”to“Self”and the reconstruction of his cultural identity. It also points out that contemporary Chinese-Americans must construct and reconstruct their cultural identities by equal exchange and integration among different cultures, as well as by subverting the white’s hegemonic discourse and stereotypes imposed on Chinese.
