Instability onset threshold of Jeffcott rotor immerged in large gap annular flow is studied by employing Routh Hurwitz stability criterion. It is shown that a large gap annular flow has a great effect on the instability onset threshold of Jeffcott rotor system immerged in this kind of flow field and its essential origin is the hydrodynamic mass produced in this annular flow.
