摘要
荷兰汉学家高罗佩《秘戏图考》及《中国古代房内考》在性学研究方面的原创性及拓荒性有目共睹,然而学界鲜有人关注其投射在中国古代性文化研究中的"重物"倾向。高氏以春宫画为敲门砖扣开了中国性文化这扇古老而又神秘的大门,又在"两考"中旁及淫具、春药、男女服饰、居室家具等众多物品,并对古文献中性事、性器官的物化隐喻进行了深入考察,试图剖析、重构这些物品或物化隐喻所依托的复杂文化语境,尽可能地复原其文化本真性。高罗佩"两考"的学术典范意义在于他将物质文化研究引进了性文化史的领域,为二者日后汇入新文化史研究的潮流作出了筚路蓝缕的贡献。
The famous Dutch sinologist Robert van Gulik,who wrote Erotic Colour Prints of the Ming Dynasty and Sexual Life in Ancient China,had opened a mysterious door of Chinese sexual culture. However,people seldom notice the fetish tendency in his original and groundbreaking researches. The fact is,besides using erotic colour prints to knock the door of ancient Chinese sexual culture in these two books,especially in the first one,Gulik also paid attention to sex toys,sex medicines,underclothes,beddings and other sex aides,and investigates them in depth.Moreover,he explores the material metaphors for sexual activities and sexual organs in ancient Chinese literature with an intention to reconstitute the rich cultural context behind those objects and metaphors. The significance of Gulik' s two books,therefore,exist in his transplanting the material culture research into the history of sexuality,which sets a perfect example for the study of the new cultural history in the late 20th century.
