Investigations were conducted into the content and distribution of pollen and spores in surficial sediments of Prydz Bay, Antarctic during the 24th Chinese National Antarctic Research Expedition. The results show that the palynological remains in the surface sediments of Prydz Bay consist of modern pollen and redeposited sporopollen. The modern pollen is mainly transported from the continents and islands north of Antarctic Convergence Zone; upper air currents may allow the dispersal of pollen and spores for some thousands of kilometers. The composition of the reworked sporopollen assemblage and its distribution pattern indicate that it may have been supplied from nearby, and has mainly come from the coast of Prydz Bay.
