摘要
作为理解世界的独特方式,图像所传递的视觉语言是一种理解世界和历史的认知模式。因为图像在直观经验表征之外,具有更为丰富的意义和内容,使人们以"对某事了如指掌"的认知态度来认识历史和周围的世界,从而标识"现代"的本质。图像在再现历史时需要符合一定的条件:首先,图像创作者需要人具有主体的地位存在。其次,观看对象的图像是"作为一个系统站立在我们面前",并非任意摆置,而是某种"系统"约制下的呈现。虽然图像在再现历史方面的优势不言而喻,但并不意味着它能够彻底取代文字。多数情况下,历史学家必须同时依靠文字及图像二种媒材"共同"作用所产生的互文性,解决历史问题。对于他们而言,图、文以平等关系构成的对话显得更有价值和分量。
As a unique way to understand the world, image delivers a visual language that is a cognitive mode to interpret the world and its history. Apart from the immediate experience that is associated with images, they contain profound conno- tations and implications, enabling people to know their surrounding world and its history with an accuracy that is compara- ble to what they know about the back of their hands, and thus to identify the nature of the sense of ＂contemporariness. ＂ Images need to meet some conditions in order to represent history. First, the creator of images should have a subjective ex- istence. Second, the image we observe should ＂stand systematically in front of us＂--it should be presented to us not ran- domly but according to certain ＂systematic＂ requirement. Although images have evident advantages in representing history, it does not necessarily mean that they can replace words completely. Most of the time, historians need to rely on the inter- textuality that is generated by the synergy between words and images to address historical problems. For historians, the dia- logue carried out equally between images and words appears to be more of value and weigh.
