摘要
袁同礼早期的图书馆生涯,由清华学校图书馆工作、赴美留学及赴欧考察、回国后在北大工作等阶段组成,大致时间为1916年至1926年。在清华学校图书馆时,他对李大钊毫无保留地传授经验,促进了李大钊对北大图书馆的改革,他以个人和清华学校图书馆名义,向北大图书馆捐赠图书,以实际行动改进北大图书馆的藏书结构。在留美期间,主动介绍北大情况,促进许多机关团体和北大图书馆开展学术、文献交流,承担联系美国国会图书馆赠送北大全套目录,在美国学生中,开展北大图书馆建设的募捐活动等。回国后,除在图书馆工作外,还创建了图书馆课程的教学工作,为北大图书馆的建设作出了贡献。
