《少年Pi的奇幻漂流》被形容为一部能让读者相信上帝的海难小说。作者扬·马特尔在书中借主人公Pi之口构筑了虚实互现的两个版本的海难叙事:一个是人们所青睐的Pi与虎同舟,劫后余生的旅程;另一个则是被人唾弃的充满了血腥与杀戮的故事。前者带有浓厚的奇幻色彩,后者则更贴近现实。通过两种叙事的对照,作者传达出一个信息:宗教信仰正如人们偏爱有虎的故事那样,是人们在面对残酷现实时通过想象在情感方面得到的升华。
Life of Pi is described as a novel about shipwreck that can make the reader believe in God.In the book Yann Martel provides the reader with two different versions of shipwreck narrative.One,favored by the reader,is about the heroic journey of Pi who lives with a tiger at sea and survives;the other,much detested by people,is a bloody story full of killing.The former is tinged with fantasy,while the latter is closer to reality.Through the comparison between these two narratives,the author conveys a message：Just as people prefer the story with the tiger,religious belief is the emotional upgrade a person experiences with the help of imagination when facing harsh reality.
