Objective To evaluate the effective radiation dose in patients undergoing whole- body 18F_FDG PET/CT examinations. Methods Whole-body PET/CT was performed in 58 sub- jects. The effective radiation dose of PET/CT was estimated by using the conversion formula with automatic exposure control technique. The estimated results were compared with conventional ra- diography (conventional CT,X-line or 99mwc scintigraphy). Results The mean dose was (4. 3± 2.2)mSv(range,2.4 to 6.8 mSv) in CT and (5.5±1.5)mSv( range,4.2 to 6.3 mSv) in PET at one time. The total effective dose of PET/CT examinations was (9.8 ± 3.3)mSv ( range, 6.6 to 13.1 mSv). Its total effective radiation dose equivalent to a conventional CT scan of belly or basin produced dose. Conclusion One-time whole-body PET/CT is safe for subjects due to the low radiation dose.
