Der Tanz mit dem Teufel by Austrian eco-writer Gtinther Schwab, written 4 years earlier than Silent Spring by American writer Rachel Carson, is a neglected, but immortal literary classic even until now. In the t950s when environmental protection and green ideologies did not come into being, Giinther Schwab put for- ward that humans should respect and get along well with nature, protect land resources from pollution, and pro- hibit forest from overlumbering, respect and protect animals, rationally utilize science and technology, to name just a few. His far-sighted eco-ideologies are invaluable and rare, and as a result he wins respect from later genera- tions. Through the critical reading for his 27 ecological works and many ecological special reports, the paper fo- cuses on the analysis of his above-mentioned insightful eco-philosophies, intends to urge academic circles to pay more attention to the environmental protection practice and ideological achievements of the figure, who is known as European Rachel Carson, so that a new horizon and study field can be broadened in the dissemination of pre- sent-day eco-culture.
