摘要
对于当代美国著名的政治哲学家和保守主义思想家哈维·曼斯菲尔德而言,文艺复兴时期意大利的著名思想家马基雅维利是一位极其重要的人物。在曼斯菲尔德的总体政治思想构架之中,马基雅维利占有提纲挈领的关键位置。曼斯菲尔德对马基雅维利的诠释技艺源自三个基本的路径:受列奥·施特劳斯的精神指引;与专事思想史研究的剑桥学派之参照对比;在长时段的西方政治思想史谱系之中考查马基雅维利。探究曼斯菲尔德解读马基雅维利思想之独特路径,不仅对我们更加深入而全面地认识马基雅维利的思想全貌有所助益,而且对我们理解曼斯菲尔德及其师施特劳斯的政治思想也具有重要启示意义。
As for Harvey Mansfield, the renowned political philosopher and conservative thinker in contemporary A- merica, the great Italian Renaissance thinker Machiavelli enjoyed an overwhelmingly important status, who occu- pies a key position in Mansfield＇s comprehensive structure of political thoughts. Mansfield＇s interpretation of Machi- avelli derives from the following three theoretical resources： inspiration of Leo Strauss, comparison with Cambridge School specializing in the study of history of ideas and situating Machiavelli in the long term of western political thoughts. To explore the special routes taken by Mansfield to interpret Machiavelli is enlightening for us to interpret Machiavelli＇s ideological system more deeply and throughly, and also of great stimulation to interpret Mansfield him- self and his tutor Strauss＇s political thoughts.
