As British colonist implemented indirect rule in northern Nigeria, they shaped Hausa, the indige- nous language, as a dominant language, working as a symbolic power in colony. After Hausa was modified by the British colonist, the language itself played a unique role in social identity, stratified differentiation, colo- nial culture and reconstruction of social order. Overall, the key factor of the success of the British administra- tion is the application of Hausa in Hausa Fulani area.
