Objective To study the effects of nerve grower factor (NGF) on behavior and the possible mechanism in vascular dementia rats. Methods Sprague dawley rats were divided into sham - operated group, vascular dementia group ( control group ) and vascular dementia of NGF treatment group ( treatment group ). The model of vascular dementia were established by 2 - AO. The learning and memory ability of the rats were evaluated 30 days after treatment. The rats were killed separately 30 days after operation. The brain sections were used for protein the number of the VEGF and Nestin. Results Learning and memory ability of treatment group improve than those of control group, improve the expression of VEGF and Nestin. Conclu- sion NGF can effectively improve the learning and memory ability by improving the expression of VEGF and Nestin in VD rats.
