Spring and Autumn Sacrifices were the official reward for the Northern Emperor God by the Ming Dynasty court for his blessings and service in preventing disaster and scourge. The official sacrifice started in the Jingtai reign period of the Ming Dynasty and extended into the Qing Dynasty. It was held twice a year,in spring and autumn respectively. The folk thanksgiving to the god offered the general public a platform and opportunity to participate in the ritual. The official sacrifice and folk worship complemented each other and were conducive to improving Foshan people's sense of belonging and social integration.
