摘要
《拉帕西尼的女儿》是美国19世纪浪漫主义小说家霍桑的一部具有多重象征意义的短篇佳作。作为一名笃信加尔文主义的清教徒,原罪的思想贯穿于霍桑的多数作品之中。在《拉帕西尼的女儿》中,霍桑用圣经原型构建了现代人类在伊甸园中的又一次堕落,同时也折射出霍桑的清教主义宗教观及科学观。
＂Rappaocini＇s Daughter＂ is an impressive short story with multiple symbolic meanings written by Nathaniel Haw- thome, one of the greatest Romantic writers in the 19th century. Hawthorne is a pious Puritan preoccupied with the Calvinist doctrine and therefore the ＂original sin＂ is overwhelming in his works. In ＂Rappaccini＇s Daughter＂, Hawthorne describes a sec- ond fall of man in the modem Eden constructed with biblical archetypes, which fully reveals Hawthorne＇s Puritan religious view and scientific outlook.
