摘要
本文将赛珍珠与沙博理、登特杨、杰克逊的《水浒传》译文作多元横向对比,分析赛译平衡和谐的特点,并追根溯源,探究该风格形成的哲学基础。赛珍珠对工整对称句式的追求来源于她对事物的秩序感,这种秩序感即对规范与准则的钟爱,具体可追溯到中国法儒传统中"法"的概念对她的影响,"法"在儒家思想中更多地表现为"礼"。
A polygenetic comparison is made between Pearl S. Buck's translation of Shuihuzhuan and the other three versions of Sideny Shapiro's, John and Alex Dent-Yang's and J. H. Jackson's in four categories with a view to illustrating Pearl's distinctive style of balance and harmony. Her pursuit of symmetry and parallelism originates from her sense of order about everything in life, which indicates her love for norm and rule. In essence, there is a philosophical foundation for it, which can be traced back to the influence of fa (law), the core idea of the Chinese Legalist-Confucian tradition. Fa is also embodied in li (ritual), the key concept of Chinese Confucianism.
