摘要
欧·亨利是19世纪末美国著名的短篇小说家,《财神与爱神》为其最具影响的短篇作品之一。作品短小精悍、构思奇巧,却因宣扬"金钱万能"而备受争议。本文拟从金钱万能与爱情万能、暴发户新贵与旧贵族、善与恶以及宗教色彩四方面重新探究作品的主题,从而揭示其独特而深刻的思想内涵。
O. Henry is a famous short-story writer at the end of 19th century America. Mammon and the Archer is one of the most influential short stories of him. The story is short but original, and it is quite controversial due to its advocating of ＂Money is all-powerful＂. This thesis attempts to disclose its unique and profound themes from four aspects： all-powerful money and all-powerful love, the new millionaire and the old aristocrats, the good and the evil, and the colour of religion.
