摘要
社会语言学(social linguistics)与语言社会学(sociology of language)共同构成普遍意义上的社会语言学。对前者的研究,由来已久,成果丰硕。但对后者的研究却很少。布迪厄,作为该领域的领军人物,以其独特的研究视角和方法,对当代社会语言学研究影响深远。本文首先界定布迪厄语言研究的取向,然后通过比较着重分析他从语言社会学视角对语言本质的解读,旨在指出布迪厄不同于其他语言学家或者语言社会学家。布迪厄认为语言不仅是一种交际工具,而且是一种象征性暴力符号,它标志着更深层次的权力关系。对语言和权力之间关系的剖析,是布迪厄对纯粹语言学观的颠覆,对结构主义语言分析的修正,对语言研究中意识形态的批判。这种对社会哲学层面的反思性研究值得借鉴。
Social linguistics and Sociology of language are integrated as sociolinguistics in the general sense. Studies on the former have been long and fruitful, whereas works on the latter are few. Bourdieu, as a leading scholar in this field, has a great influence on the contemporary sociolinguistics due to his unique insight and perspective. This paper first orientates Bourdieu＇ s language stu- dy, and then it makes a contrastive study between Bourdieu and some influential scholars on the explanation of language nature, aiming to show, unlike those scholars, Bourdieu＇ s argument that language is no longer simply a communication tool but has developed into a symbolic power concerning its user, and its statutory use. His insight into the dominant power of language re- veals his critique of the traditional linguistic view and ideology in language research. It provides a research paradigm to the cur- rent language philosophy studies.
