摘要
By means of context analysis, the essay aims at constructing the connections between Australian colonial and post-colonial periods suggested in the novel Birds of Passage written by Australian writer,Brain Castro. Through a comparative analysis of its fictional characters,a macro panorama of the Australian colonial history and its post-colonial status quo is built up in three dimensions of context: culture, situation and co-text. With a special attention to the co-text of the novel, the gap between the colonial and the post-colonial periods is bridged, revealing that the earlier immigrants and their descendants are both lost on their way.
