Objective To explore the effective and feasible caring and service model of STD & HIV for men who have sex with men (MSM) and its application effect in Shenzhen. Methods A specific clinic for MSM and a hot line were set up,which were sponsored by special financial funds from Shenzhen municipal government. Outxeach services were delivered to various MSM venues and free tests for syphilis and HIV were provided. Standard treatments for syphilis were given and referral services were offered to H/V-infected and AIDS patients . All patients were received medical records and tracing revisit. Web-based health education programs were established through collaborating with local MSM websites. Results A caring and service model for MSM based on STD clinic and core volunteers was established by conducting STD/AIDS prevention program among MSM,providing friendly, affordable and accessible service on STD/AIDS counseling, test and treatment for MSM . Conclusion STD cllnic-based service model can meet the most urgent, related and actual health need of local MSM population and insure their entitled rights of basic public health service. Since it places volunteers on the core role, this model can alleviate healthcare providers greatly from the pressure of frequent outreach work but it still can keep healthcare workers in maximum touch with MSM population, allow detection of syphilis/HIV infection as far as possible and further block syphilis and HIV transmission within and beyond MSM community.
