Taking the Brook farm in the 1840s as the archetype and adopting the "melody" of traditional pastoral drama in the European literature, Nathaniel Hawthorne composed Blithedale Romance in which people sought the utopiau social reformation in the process of industrialization of America. By means of unique esthetic taste, astute insight and metaphorical skill, the author of this novel expounds /he alienation between man and nature as a result of the subjugation of science upon nature and ponders over the influence exerted by industrialization upon man. Meanwhile, the novel also reflects the special discourse, by means of which the author expresses American politics and economy.
