A theory and method for the function-oriented design of point-contact tooth surfaces are presented, and the formulae for the design are introduced.The theory and method are proved valid through designs. With the function-oriented tooth surface design technique that is an important renovation and perfection to the current, the tooth surfaces without the limitation can be designed in accordance with the expected performances, which is quite important for the gears in high speed, heavy duty and special requirements.
