Phytoplankton community in Geermu River of Caidamu River System was investigated in autumn(September). Results showed that there 4 phyla including 28 species of phytoplankton in Geermu River of Caidamu River System in Autumn. Bacillariophyta were represented by the highest number of taxa ( 14 ), follwed by Chlorophyta (8), Cyanophyta ( 3 ), Pyrrophyta ( 2 ) and Cryptophyta ( 1 ). Baeillariophyta ( 61.5 % ) was dominate in dominate species. Cyclotella sp. , Diatoma vulgare, Synedra sp. , Synedra acus, Achnanthes sp. , Navicula sp. , CymbeUa sp. , Nitzschia sp. , Oscillatoria sp. , Phormidium sp. And Scenedemus sp. The abundance of phytoplankton ranged from 4.43 × 10^4 to 60. 66 × 10^4 cells/L, with the average of 23.35 × 10^4 cells/L, and the biomass of phytoplankton ranged from 0. 0260 -0. 0476 mg/L, with the average of 0. 0363 mg/ L. The abundance of Cyanophyta are the highest in all species, occupying 86.0%, The biomass of Bacillariophyta are the highest in all species, occupying 52. 1%. Shannon-Weaver index of diversity and the Pielou index and Margalef inder of phytoplankton were very low in every sampling sites, their mean values was 1.80 and 0. 43 and 1.49 ,respectively. These structure characteristics indicated that phytoplankton of this river was simple, Water quality was oligotrophic type.
