The requirement of large bandwidth will be greatly satisfied in China Telecom's optical SDH networks by using wavelength division multiplexing (WDM)or dense WDM.In this paper,the principal advantage of WDM over TDM and its aplication in optical SDH transmission systems are introduced.Important WDM components and techniques are discussed in details and the advantage of integrated management system for WDM and SDH transmission networks is proposed.
