摘要
为了寻求超验主义学说的理论支持,爱默生将目光投向遥远的东方。他不仅在超验主义的喉舌《日晷》上连续刊载儒家格言,更在自己的日记、演讲和随笔中广泛引用。值得注意的是,他对以儒家思想为代表的中国文化是选择性地加以接收。取舍之间,我们不但可以看出爱默生本人的文化立场,也可以对儒家思想的精髓有更深层的理解。
To seek the theoretical support for the Transcendentalism,Emerson turned to the Oriental from afar.He published the serial Confucian Sayings in the mouthpiece of the Transcendentalism—The Dial,and quoted them extensively in his diaries,lectures,and essays.It is noteworthy that his attitude towards the Chinese culture characterized by Confucian thoughts is partial acceptance.On studying his acceptance and rejection,we can not only find out Emerson＇s cultural standpoint,but also reach a deeper understanding of the quintessence of traditional Chinese culture.
