The paper includes a brief summary of the most current and hot topics on cultural landscapes for the immediate future. The 40th celebration of the World Heritage Convention highlights some current issues and demands new strategies and landscape policies for themes such as authenticity, the need for a Global Landscape Convention, the debate on Historic Urban Landscapes—after the recent Recommendation adopted by UNESCO—the traditional and rural landscape at risk due both to natural causes and to human induced hazards, that imply an urgent need for cooperation and coordination at all levels, both nationally and internationally.
